Jansen’s history

Jansen became an incorporated village on October 19, 1908. It was named for John Jansen, a rancher from Nebraska. The village lies along Highway 16, about 150 km east of Saskatoon, within the Rural Municipality of Prairie Rose No. 309.

Today Jansen is home to Zion Lutheran Church, a Community Hall and Summer Recreation Complex, and a five-pin bowling alley. The C.M. Buckaway Library serves as the public library.

The active Kinsmen and Kinette clubs host community suppers called steak frys twice a year and put on a large Canada Day celebration. Children from Jansen are bused to nearby Lanigan for school. Hockey player Ken Schinkel is among the village's notable people.
